Mondays, 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. First class: To be determined Last class: To be determined For children ages 6 months to 3 years and their caregivers Our Parent and Child Class offers parents and caregivers, along with their infants and toddlers, an introduction to child development and the Waldorf philosophy of early childhood education. This weekly class is held in a beautiful and nurturing atmosphere that supports the wonders and exploration of the first years of life. Our structured program begins in the Chickadee classroom which is designed to allow the youngest children to experience a warm and stimulating environment in which to explore age-appropriate toys and their beginning social interactions. While the children are nearby, the adults engage in a simple and meaningful handwork craft and are supported and inspired by conversations with other parents and with an experienced, Waldorf-trained teacher. Topics may include creating rhythm and routine in home life, health and nutrition, sleep patterns, and motor and speech development. Then, everyone shares a nutritious snack, joins together in singing games and finger plays, and watches a puppet story led by the teacher. Outside play under the umbrella shade of two sturdy maple trees enlivens the senses and allows freedom of movement as the children explore the rich sensory world of sand, water, grass, and plants. In these ways, teacher and parents work together to provide a model of what community means for young children. To register for this class: |
